You Don't Need A Five-Year Plan (Unless You Want One)

She told me I don't have to have a five-year plan, and that notion may have been the thing that set me free. Most of the time, I can barely see around the corner because of the big idea sitting right in my lap.

I need people who pay attention to the details. I need people who make lists and categorize things and enter data into spreadsheets. And those people need me to remind them to look up from time to time and notice the way the sky shimmers in the afternoon when the light shines through the trees.

Some people are planners. They function best when all the steps are laid out in front of them. And some of us are dreamers. And when she told me I don't have to have a five-year plan, suddenly I could breathe again.

Are you a planner, or a dreamer, or a combination of the two? And if you're a dreamer, do you appreciate the planners in your life?
